5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Taking the Capsule Wardrobe Plunge

Who wants to start purging and create a capsule wardrobe NOW?

Excited. Determined. Eager. Doesn't like delayed gratification. Impulsive.

If you are like me, then you are likely ready to move straight into planning and shopping for that new capsule wardrobe! Not so fast! I started this endeavor with the aim of making stylish changes that last, not quick fixes for a seriously messy closet.

So, before we move forward on this journey, we need to spend some time thinking about our real motivations for desiring a capsule wardrobe.

Download this free printable, grab a pen and a notebook, or that trusty iPad, and answer these five questions:

  1. Why do I want a capsule wardrobe?
  2. What 3 main things do I hope to accomplish with a capsule wardrobe?
  3. How do I currently feel when I get dressed each morning?
  4. How do I want to feel when I get dressed in the morning?
  5. Do I have the time and energy to do the work necessary to create a system that is sustainable?

If you answered "No" to the last question, a capsule wardrobe may not be for you right now. It's that simple!

But, that does not mean that a lot of the theories behind capsule wardrobes won't be helpful to you. I encourage you to take a look around the blog, particularly at the Complete Wardrobe and Intention Dressing sections.

Or, if you'd like someone to help you create a capsule wardrobe using timeless staples, check out the Minimalist Wardrobe Challenge! It might be just what you need.

The other questions are really about getting to know where you are right now with your wardrobe. There are no right or wrong answers. Being clear about what you want out of your wardrobe will help you as you move ahead.
